Device and features of the stop valve application in pipeline systems
A stop valve is a type of shut-off valve for pipeline systems, which is used to completely block the flow of a medium passing in a pipeline with a unidirectional flow. The valves are used for working with liquid, viscous and gaseous media (both non-aggressive and aggressive) in a wide range of parameters (pressure up to 250 MPa, temperature up to + 600 degrees Celsius). The task of buying a shut-off valve for the necessary operating conditions is solved by species diversity.
The principle of operation and advantages of the stop valve
The shut - off valve-the spool-completely blocks the flow of the medium in the valve when moving. The direction of movement of the spool coincides with the direction of movement of the medium, and not perpendicular to it, which gives a number of advantages to this type of shut-off valves:
- the necessary low stroke of the shutter for complete overlap
- relatively small construction height and weight
- tightness.
At the same time, the movement of the spool parallel to the flow axis of the working medium gives a high hydraulic resistance, which leads to significant pressure losses in the pipeline, and requires an increase in the initial pressure in the system to compensate for the losses. This is especially noticeable in pipelines of large diameters, and those in which the medium moves at high speed. Connection to the pipeline is realized by welding. The locking mechanism can be controlled using a flywheel, a drive head with a mechanical or cylindrical gearbox, or an electric drive. They can be installed on both horizontal and vertical sections of pipelines.

According to their design, shut-off valves can differ in compliance with various safety classes, basic or premium design (with an increased service life: strengthening of working bodies and a simplified mechanism for replacing.
